Darmstadt 98 loses its striker duo: After Fraser Hornby, Isac Lidberg also leaves the club and joins Borussia Mönchengladbach. The Swedish striker receives a four-year contract and the Gladbachers pay a transfer fee of around 3.5 million euros plus bonuses. Lidberg scored 17 goals in the past season and finished second in the top scorer list behind Fürth's Noel Futkeu. Darmstadt 98's sports director, Paul Fernie, said: «We were prepared for Isac to take the next step this summer after two convincing seasons. We had clear financial expectations in case of an offer, which Mönchengladbach has now met». Lidberg joined Darmstadt 98 from FC Utrecht in August 2024 and played a total of 64 competitive games, scoring 32 goals. The 27-year-old striker made his debut for the Swedish national team in late 2024 and has since played three international matches. Darmstadt 98 did not want to stand in the way of the striker, as he has presented himself as a complete professional throughout his time at the club and has now earned this opportunity. The club is proud of the path Isac has taken with us, said Fernie. The departure of Lidberg is the second high-profile departure from the Lilien after the transfer of Fraser Hornby to VfL Wolfsburg. Nevertheless, Darmstadt 98 remains confident that the club will be successful in the upcoming season.
