Darmstadt 98 secured a point against SV Elversberg in the top game. The team of coach Florian Kohfeldt came back from a 0-3 deficit to 3-3. Patric Pfeiffer and Fraser Hornby had initially fulfilled the hopes of the spectators in the sold-out Böllenfalltor for a football festival. But the visitors showed no impression and struck back mercilessly. Tom Zimmerschied, Maximilian Rohr, and Lukas Petkov scored for Elversberg. The equalizer was achieved by Hornby in the 51st minute. Darmstadt 98 now has to bury their promotion chances, while Elversberg maintained their chances for the relegation spot. The Lilien now have 51 points and are six points behind Hannover 96. Elversberg is only one point behind the Lower Saxons in fourth place. Darmstadt 98 had lost three games in a row and had to win to keep their promotion chances alive. The early double strike, however, did not bring the necessary security. On the contrary: The Lilien acted too passively and left the ball to the Saarlanders. So the goals of the SVE fell almost inevitably. After the break, Darmstadt showed morale in the minority and pushed for the equalizer. This was achieved by Hornby, who was later substituted out with a thigh injury. Elversberg lacked clarity, momentum, and conviction in the second half. Matej Maglica cleared the possible lucky punch of the SVE on the line in stoppage time. Darmstadt 98 now has to fight for their play-off chances. The Lilien have three games left before the end of the season and must win all of them to have a chance at the relegation spot.
